Boys Golf Starts Season Off 3-0
After the first week of competition, the Pacifica Christian Boys Golf team has picked up three wins in three matches. The Tritons were on the road Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week in three nonleague matchups against Calvary Chapel, Western Christian, and Samueli Academy. In high school golf, the format consists of six golfers from each team competing, and each team totals up to the five lowest scores. After adding all five rounds together, the team with the lowest total wins.
Monday the Orange and Navy traveled to Willowick Golf Course to take on Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. A par 35, the Tritons defeated the Eagles 196 to 248. Leading the way was Senior Eston Kallins who posted a team low of 33 (-2) birding both of the par fives and parring the rest of the seven holes. Senior Ethan Shumlas shot 38 with birdies on the seventh and eighth holes while Sophomore Matthew Hull posted a 39 with six pars. Asher Alexander, Will Watson, and Dalton Bateau all posted a 43.
The Tritons were right back at it on Tuesday as they traveled to Mountain Meadows Golf Course to take on Western Christian. A par 36, the Orange and Navy defeated the Lancers by nine strokes, beating them 207 to 216. Matthew Hull came in with his lowest round of the season and of the match, firing a 33 (-3) birding the fifth, sixth, and eighth hole. Eston Kallins posted a 39 with two birdies on the seventh and eighth holes. Will Watson, Ethan Shumlas, and Dalton Bateau came in shooting 44, 45, and 46 respectively as Asher Alexander rounded things out with a 49.
The Orange and Navy finished off their week traveling to Riverview Golf Course to take on Samueli Academy. A par 30, the Tritons defeated the Firewolves 178 to 252. Once again Matthew Hull was the low on the day shooting a 30 (E), as he had nine pars on his scorecard. Will Watson came in with a 35 while Asher Alexander and Ethan Shumlas posted a 36 and 37 respectively. Rounding things out for the Tritons was Luke Watson and Blake Bush who shot a 40 and 43.
The team is off to a strong start and is looking to continue to build off that momentum for the rest of the season. The Tritons have a very busy month of March with 13 matches scheduled, four next week. The team will have two home matches at Costa Mesa Country Club on Monday and Tuesday before getting on the ferry and traveling to Avalon to compete on Friday and Saturday.
