Boys Basketball 3-0 in San Joaquin League
Pacifica Christian Boys Basketball is undefeated in the 2024 calendar year, with four wins in January. The Tritons are now 14-8 overall, and 3-0 in the San Joaquin League. The Tritons who moved up to Division 1 in CIF this year have been competing against some tough competition, preparing for league play, and are currently ranked 7th in Orange County according to the OC Register and 24th in the state according to SB Live Sports.
In the first game of the new year, the Orange and Navy beat Modesto Christian in the BSN Showcase. Junior Logan Stewart led the team to a thrilling 68-61 overtime win with 33 points and 12 rebounds. The squad has continued to keep the momentum going as they hosted Fairmont Prep in the league opener on Tuesday, January 9 in the Triton Event Center. Every league game is a must-win for the Tritons, especially at home and the squad was ready. The Orange and Navy beat the visiting Huskies 55-44. Sophomore Michael Noel led the team with 17 points and drained five threes. EJ Spillman had a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists and continues to be the steady ball handler for the squad.
Two days later, the Tritons made the long drive out to Pasadena to take on San Gabriel Academy. The Orange and Navy led the game the whole way, outscoring the Eagles 71-59. EJ Spillman was unstoppable as he tallied 26 points. Michael Noel continued his hot streak as he was five for six from the three, good for 17 points while Senior Alex Stewart had 11 points and eight rebounds. The Tritons brought that momentum with them on the road down to CVCS where the team beat the Eagles 55-44. After only being up by one at halftime, the Orange and Navy came out hot in the third quarter, scoring 22 points compared to the Eagles 14. Leading the way was Junior Hudson Reynolds who had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Stewart had 13 points and eight rebounds while Logan Stewart had 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Tritons continue to play well on both sides of the ball, rebounding well offensively and defensively making it hard for opponents to score and get any type of momentum. EJ Spillman leads the team in points and assists, averaging 15 points and 5.1 assists per game. Logan Stewart leads the team in rebounds averaging 8.1 per game and has 154 total on the season. Hudson Reynolds has proven to be a handle for the opposing team's offense as he leads the team with 29 steals.
The Orange and Navy will be on the road for the next two San Joaquin League games. They will travel to Orangewood Academy on Thursday for their first meeting of the season at 7:00 pm then travel to Anaheim to take on Fairmont Prep on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
