Tritons Defeat Grizzlies on Senior Day, Finish League Play 13-1
In an exciting match-up on Thursday, April 11th, the Pacifica Christian Baseball Team delivered a solid performance, triumphing over Calvary Chapel Downey with a convincing 14-2 victory. This was the final San Joaquin League game of the season for both teams and with the win, the Tritons finished league play with a record of 13-1, and are currently 16-4 overall. This was also a special evening as the Orange and Navy honored the two graduating seniors, Will Glidewell and Sagar Hardy.
This was a rematch, as the Tritons traveled to Calvary Chapel earlier this week, beating the Grizzlies 12-8. The Orange and Navy were ready as they dominated the game, scoring eight runs in the second inning, forcing Calvary to switch pitchers early on. The Tritons scored four more in the third and two in the fifth, combining for 13 hits and 14 runs.
Sophomore Jon Stone got the start on the mound, as he threw 46 pitches, only allowing two hits and recording six strikeouts. Stone has been a steady pitcher for the Tritons this season with four wins and an ERA of .32. Josiah Miller and Sagar Hardy came on in relief, both only allowing one hit and combining for three strikeouts. Johnny Coopman went two for three at the plate with a triple and is now leading the team, batting .472 with 25 hits and 29 RBIs. Keegan DeMots went three for three at the plate, with three RBIs. Reed Fry continues to be a solid hitter at the plate as he went two for two with two RBIs and he now has 24 hits and 23 RBIs this season.
"We were able to finish league play on a high note with a really well-played game by the team, but the highlight was honoring our seniors and team captains. Will and Sagar have been with the team from the beginning and have been the ultimate leaders and teammates," said Head Coach Chris Gomez, "We'll have to continue our solid play entering the league and CIF playoffs which we know will be very competitive. I know our boys will be ready."
This has been a breakthrough season for Pacifica Christian Baseball as they will finish tied for second place with Western Christian with both teams finishing 13-1 in league play. The Tritons have held the number one slot in CIF-SS Division 8 since March 4th and have scored 195 runs in 20 games.
With Western Christian and the Tritons finishing 13-1, the Lancers won the tie-breaking coin toss, forcing the Orange and Navy to travel for the first round of the League Tournament. The first game will be against Western Christian on Thursday, April 18th with the first pitch at 7:00 pm at Upland Memorial Park.
