Baseball Remains Undefeated Through Five Games
The Pacifica Christian Baseball Team is off to a hot start during the 2023-2024 season. As only the third year as a program, the Tritons have combined for 45 runs in their last three games, 56 runs this season, and have only given up six runs. The Orange and Navy opened up San Joaquin League play against The Webb Schools last week, beating the Gauls at home and on the road. The Tritons then traveled to Southlands to take on the Eagles and picked up their third league win of the season, improving to an overall record of 5-0 on the season.
During the first home opener of the season last Friday, the Orange and Navy hosted Webb, beating the Gauls 17-0. Sophomore Jon Stone got the start on the mound, as he tallied nine strikeouts, only allowing five hits, throwing 88 pitches in six innings. Freshman Scout Escobedo had three RBIs, while John Peterson, Jude Dravecky, Jon Stone, and Sagar Hardy each had two RBIs. The bats came alive for the Orange and Navy in the bottom of the second, as Escoebdo doubled to center field, putting the first two runs on the board. After that, the Tritons would score in the next five innings.
The next day, the Tritons were back out on the field as they traveled to Webb in their second league meeting of the season. It was Junior Keegan DeMots who got the start Saturday afternoon as he struck out three out of the eleven batters he faced. Freshman Luke Miller came in to relieve DeMots in the third inning, pitching four innings, and facing 17 batters before Josiah Miller closed out the game, allowing no runs. Freshman Jude Dravecky was on fire at the plate, recording five RBIs, including a triple in the top of the sixth inning. Reed Fry had three RBIs, while Jon Stone had two more RBIs, helping secure a 12-3 win.
A few days later on Tuesday, the Orange and Navy traveled to take on Southlands where Johnny Coopman took the mound for the Tritons, recording seven strikeouts, and only giving up one hit through five innings. Coopman also had two hits in three plate appearances offensively and helped the Orange and Navy beat the Eagles 16-0.
Amongst the eight teams, the Tritons are the only team in the San Joaquin League that remains undefeated and are currently sitting in first place in the standings, excluding CVCS whom the team does not face until the League Tournament in April. The Orange and Navy will host Southlands on Thursday, February 29th at 3:15 pm before traveling to Loara High School on Saturday.
