Girls Basketball has been on fire this season, as they entered the Pacifica Tournament with a perfect record of 8-0. The Tritons faced off against a competitive El Toro squad but took the victory by a final score of 46-33 to remain undefeated and improve to 9-0. The team was led by Lauryn Ham who had a team-high 21 points, five of those being three-pointers. Ham just recently became the first Girls' Basketball player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Junior Caylie Villagrana had nine points while Vivian Villagrana added another eight to the board. Sophomore Angi Martinez who currently leads the team in rebounds and blocks added to her stats with seven rebounds and five blocks. The Orange and Navy will take on St. Margarets on Wednesday for the second time this season. Tip-off will be at 7:30 pm and the game will be held at Pacifica High School. The Tritons previously beat the Tartans 43-42 on November 28.
In the second game of the day, Boys Soccer hosted Vista Meridian in their first league meeting of the season. The Tritons found the back of the net nine times by seven different players. Aiden Lynch and Shaun Sandhu each had a pair of goals while Dylan Streiff picked up his third goal of the year. Four different Tritons had their first goals of the season today as freshmen Eli Ruiz, Jacob Attwater, John Peterson, and Parker Cleary each found the back of the net. Dylan Streiff leads the team in goals scored with three while Shaun Sandu leads the team in assists with three. The Orange and Navy are now 2-3 overall and 2-0 in Academy League play. The squad will host Bonsall High School on Tuesday in a nonleague matchup. Kick-off is set for 3:15 pm at Vanguard University. Last season the Tritons beat Bonsall 3-0 and are looking to pick up their third win of the year to be back at 500.
The final game of the evening was the long-awaited rematch of Boys Basketball against Orange Lutheran. Last season these two teams met twice, where the Tritons took the win both times, each by one point. The Orange and Navy were matched up against the Lancers in the first game of the CDM Beach Bash where the Tritons would dominate, winning the game 63-44. Entering the game, the Tritons were 3-3 after two wins against Bishop Montgomery and Long Beach Jordon. The Lancers were 4-1, and on a two-game winning streak, having only dropped one game this season to La Serna in November. Logan Stewart had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Stewart was a force in the paint for the Tritons on both offense and defense. Junior EJ Spillman had 12 points and four assists while Michael Noel had an additional 11 points. Junior Hudson Reynolds had eight points and a team-high six assists. The Orange and Navy pulled away in the second quarter and never trailed after that. A combination of some solid defense and aggressive rebounding led the Tritons to a victory. The team will take on Foothill Tuesday Night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm at CDM High School.
