Pacifica Christian Hires Director of Boys Volleyball Cory Swartzbaugh
Pacifica Christian Orange County is thrilled to announce the hiring of Cory Swartzbaugh as the new Director of Boys Volleyball. Swartzbaugh brings an impressive resume of playing and coaching experience, as well as a deep passion for developing athletes and fostering excellence.
A Dana Point native, Swartzbaugh attended Dana Hills High School, where he was a standout on the boys' volleyball team. As a four-year starter, he helped the Dolphins achieve a 51-30 record over four seasons, including a 21-12 finish and a CIF Division 1 semifinal appearance in 2008. Swartzbaugh was a key member of the South Coast League championship team during his sophomore year.
Swartzbaugh continued his volleyball career at the Division 1 level with the University of California San Diego. During his freshman year, he appeared in 10 matches and 21 sets, competing against one of the toughest NCAA schedules in the country, facing 27 ranked teams in a 29-match season.
Following his collegiate career, Swartzbaugh transitioned into coaching, building a reputation for excellence and leadership at some of Southern California's top volleyball programs. His first role as an assistant varsity coach and JV head coach at Capistrano Valley Christian School (CVCS) showcased his ability to develop teams and players. Under his guidance, CVCS achieved a 19-2 record and a CIF Division 6 championship in 2021. The following year, the program went 29-11, reaching the CIF Division 4 championship game.
Swartzbaugh also demonstrated his skill as a program builder when he became the head varsity beach volleyball coach at Beckman High School. He successfully launched the program, enabling it to compete in the highly competitive Orange County Beach Volleyball League against powerhouse teams like Newport Harbor and Huntington Beach.
In addition to his high school coaching roles, Swartzbaugh has gained valuable club coaching experience with SoCal Spitfires, American Beach Volleyball, Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, and currently A4 Volleyball.
"Cory brings a rich history of playing and coaching experience to Pacifica Christian," said Brandon Gonzalez, Director of Athletics & Student Life. "He has worked with some of the most competitive high school programs in Southern California and has consistently demonstrated his ability to develop players and lead programs to success. We're excited to see how he will grow our boys' volleyball program and continue to build a culture of excellence."
Swartzbaugh is poised to make an immediate impact at Pacifica Christian, combining his expertise and passion to lead the school's boys' volleyball program into a promising future. Cory currently loves playing beach volleyball in his free time and doing anything adventurous. He presently attends Watermark Church in Costa Mesa.
